Research development support workshop and study visit at University of Bedfordshire completed
During the period 26 March – April 1 (2017), a delegation of 10 University of Prishtina staff participated in a workshop combined with a study visit at the University of Bedfordshire. The visit was aimed at supporting two research projects that the teams of University of Prishtina’s Faculty of Education have been conducting through the support of the project. The two research projects were: the role of ICT in teaching and learning; The current realities of formative assessment at the Kosovo school system. The workshop was planned in a form that it would provide the academics to both study the practices of UK in these two areas as well as provide the support and feedback to the two teams in advancing the implementation of the research projects. The teams had access to both the literature as well as advise from professors of University of Bedfordshire. The workshop ended with presentation of research progress by the two teams as well as outline of the process until final implementation of research projects. In parallel, the programme had also envisaged school visits for the University of Prishtina staff in relation to the research interest and teaching practice of individual professors as well as small tailored workshop on qualitative and quantitative data analysis. Capacity building workshop for teacher educators on mentoring master thesis
On march 28th (2017), the University of Ljubljana professors (Dr. Vogrinc and Dr. Krek) delivered a workshop for teacher educators at the University of Prishtina’s Faculty of Education on the standards and processes involved in mentoring Master thesis research. This workshop was planned as a support for staff and students in increasing the standards of master research within the new master study programs developed through this project. The workshop started with a presentation of standards and processes of mentoring master thesis research at the University of Ljubljana’s Faculty of Education and was followed by a guided discussion on the issues and suggested strategies to increase the standards and improve the practices of master thesis at the University of Prishtina’s Faculty of Education. The workshop will be followed by another workshop at the end of May 2017 which will aim at more practical activities and examples of Master thesis at the University of Ljubljana.
Staff development for research skills and assessment organized
In the period between 11-15 June 2015, the project organized capacity development workshops for teacher educators at the University of Prishtina’s Faculty of Education on developing research skills and reflecting on the student assessment skills and processes. Delivered form the experts from University of Ljubljana and University of Bedfordshire, the topics addressed during these workshops included: The qualitative and quantitative paradigms in research; action research; linking school and teacher education institutions through research as well as planning and conducting formative and summative assessment at teacher education practice. Participants were exposed to some theoretical inputs and engaged in some reflective practices and collaborative activities and discussions in view of improving teacher education practice.
Developing teacher education for inclusive practices
Within the capacity building program organized within the project, a two-day workshop (1st and 2nd of October 2015) was organized with teacher educators at the University of Prishtina on the practices of inclusive education and the need to develop inclusive teachers in order to face the new realities of education policy and practices in Kosovo and in line with the modern trends of inclusive schools. The workshops were delivered from University of Bologna and University of Bedfordshire experts. Teacher educators had the opportunity to expose themselves to the reflective processes of developing their courses that will lead towards creating teachers that are sensitive to and skilled in addressing inclusion in Kosovo schools.
The workshop was also visited by the Minister of Education, Science and Technology Dr. Arsim Bajrami who gave an introductory speech also marking the beginning of new academic year at the Faculty of Education.
Research skills capacity building activities continued
As part of the capacity building programme, the project organized the workshop on developing skills for research in teacher education on February 15 and 16th. The workshop was delivered by Prof. Krek and Prof. Vogrinc and focused on the topic of action research design and planning and completing theoretical research. The workshops were also oriented towards involving participants in reviewing their original research proposals with the view of presenting the progress in a special symposium scheduled for June 2016.
Research support visits of the first group of University of Prishtina academic staff to University of Ljubljana
Ten staff from the University of Prishtina’s Faculty of Education have stayed at the University of Ljubljana’s Faculty of Education during 05-10 March 2017. The purpose of the stay was the development of the research capacities of the staff, more specifically the teams of staff had been working on some research ideas throughout the project implementation of the purpose of the visit to Ljubljana was an additional attempt to support the implementation of those research projects. During the week a series of workshops were held in which the staff of University of Prishtina has presented the progress in the research projects while the staff of the University of Ljubljana has provided the feedback and suggestions. In addition, there has been bilateral meetings and review sessions in order to support individuals and teams in advancing their research work. Also, the staff of the University of Prishtina staff has had the opportunity to participate in various lectures ongoing at the University of Lubljana during that week.
Research support of the second group of the academic staff of the University of Prishtina to the University of Ljubljana
Eight staff of the University of Prishtina’s Faculty of Education stayed at the University of Ljubljana during 12-17 March 2017. The purpose of the visit was to enable the University of Prishtina teacher educators to engage with the University of Ljubljana academics in the implementation of the research projects identified as well as review of course syllabi and participate in the various lectures that were ongoing at the University of Ljubljana during that week.
